Victory and Victim Both Start Out The Same
It’s Up To You How It Ends
About Victory and Victim
How often do you review your situation, obligations, goals, dreams, brand, mindset, boundaries, and support system?
That is what we do here. We take stock. We dream big.
We push ourselves to levels never expected by those around us. We will face these challenges together, focusing on this community, LinkedIn, our network, our tribe.
We will learn about business, marketing, sales, brand building, social media growth, personal issues, mental health, physical limitations and exceeding expectations.
This is the place where I will engage with people much smarter than myself, while teaching you as I learn. Teaching those guests what I do know well, pushing each other to higher levels with fun and engaging conversations… chats that matter the most.

The Beginning: My First Step
Ah, here we are, episode one.
Melissa Houston, growth coach, business consultant, and editor of an upcoming magazine launching this fall. Where I’m going to highlight coaches and leaders in their craft doing what they do best and allow you to meet my friends, the people on LinkedIn, the network I’ve been building.
I would love for you to have a front-row seat to the insight that they can bring not only to your life but to your business to your mindset, and hopefully, we’re all going to grow together.
Hopefully, we all get a little something out of this Podcast.
It’s been a journey, that’s for sure. I started thinking through this “Victory and victim both start out the same it’s up to you how it ends” at 15, maybe 16 years old; it’s hard to remember when exactly, but I was struggling. I was working full time. I was a student; I was in ROTC.. junior ROTC, which is kind of preparing you for the military. You can enter into the military at a higher pay grade just by joining and doing well; and I loved the structure that it brought.
I loved the community even then.
Fast forward, I didn’t get to join the military.
I was pregnant at 18. I got pregnant on my birthday, so my journey shifted, and I moved into business. I had bills to pay and a kid to serve. Slowly but surely, I realized where my gifts were, and it was in sales and marketing and growing other people’s dreams.
Every business owner who’s ever hired me to help them expand their client based their sales, their marketing program, whatever it was… I was able to execute for them, and there’s something special and really profound would you realize that if you apply that same activity to your own goal and dream that you can bank on that that you can become something more than you’ve ever dreamed of that said here we are today it’s been self-employed for seven years as a business consultant. I realized when I was consulting that I was coaching leaders, helping them see those things that most people don’t see because we get so busy responding to our day today. We’re like the human equivalent of Rumba; right, just go and go, we’re on a mission, and we have something to accomplish, but as soon as we hit a wall, we spin around in a circle, and we start moving a different direction.
I would love to help plot your path to not spin in a circle if you hit a wall to be able to clearly define your next path without having to do the 180 by 362 to understand strategically what each move means for you to understand how long you should be on each step sometimes we allow ourselves to get stuck you know oh I’m gonna go back to school I’m going to start looking for a job I’m going to do the dishes the clean out their garage I’m going to lose weight next week I’ll start next month you know I’m gonna start getting a financial plan together soon I want to start writing that book soon I tell people to start I hope people start so here I am starting right I’m practicing what I’m preaching. I have no idea where this Podcast is going to go. I know great people will show up and will tell some great stories. There’s gonna be insights, accountability, hard conversations, hard topics. It’s all overcoming what I’ve learned about overcoming is that it all comes back to your mindset. No matter what we have in front of us, no matter what tools we have available, our mindset is the maker break part of that equation.
There are no if’s, and’s, or buts.
If you know you can’t do it, you’re right, and if you think you can accomplish it, you’re equally right. The more people you know, the more tools you have, the more resources available to you the easier it is to execute, but you already have the tools you need to get started today. You already have enough inside of you to make the 1st step.
From there, once people see you trying to move and act and have forward progression, they jump in; they want to help too. They’ll push you, they’ll pull you, they’ll engage with you, fill in the blanks, but you just have to start.
With that said, here’s me starting; it’s not much to begin with, but it’s everything. It’s the 1st step, and I’m happy you’re here.
We will be back soon with people that have executed their dreams that are working towards their dreams, and I have authors I would like to highlight. I have magazine owners, business owners, and publications that are all coming. Let’s get started, OK? Thanks for listening.
You may be asking what I think qualifies me to do what I do?
I haven’t given up. I learn new things every day. I have grown numerous businesses for their owners and now am working for myself. People hire me and my friends to help. We know what we know and own what we don’t.
